Murad was one of the first races I got to use my Rebel XSi and it's interesting to see what difference a year can make. It took me a while to get this gallery up but life got in the way a bit and with some drama I needed a bit of a break to remind myself why I love doing this. Thunderbirds 2009

This was my third JSOH but my first witnessing the Thunderbirds in action. I was working at the time and couldn't walk around as much as I would have liked to so I could get shots of the awesome aircraft parked along the flightline but I'm so happy I got to catch these amazing pilots doing their thing. Many would argue that the Navy Blue Angels are superior but being an Airman I have to be biased. This was also my first airshow with my current camera and many of these pictures didn't have to be cropped which was a pleasant surprise. I'd been anticipating the show for some time and I'm probably the only Airman that doesn't grumble at the thought of yet another airshow. I still believe there is still a romance to flight and in my mind there is no better way to display the power of American ingenuity in motion. Whoo! I've talked a ton. Enjoy.

Greenbelt 5-20-2009

This was my first time at Greenbelt. It was a lovely way to spend the night of my 4th anniversary. LOL... But it was good to see lots of familiar faces and there was absolutely NO pressure. This was a practice race for me just as much as it was for the riders. The setting sun combined with being surrounded by trees made getting enough light really tricky and a lot of shots didn't come out. Again, no pressure and just had fun with it.

Turkey Hill 2009

This was our first time at Turkey Hill and I don't know what took us so long. It has everything I love: kids, animals and ice cream. Oh, and a bike race. The Baby Derby was the highlight of my day. Had a little trouble with the weather but I think the shots came out alright despite the lack of sunlight. Enjoy!

I have to apologize for taking so long to get this gallery finished. It's just that when my parents are in town and my guy loses his job my life gets really swamped. I'm just glad to be done with this one. It was a heck of a lot of fun and a really big race for Kyle with it being his first weekend as a Cat 3. It was also fun getting shots of Mayor Adrian Fenty of DC in a race. It was kind of funny to have him acknowledge my misbehaving mutts but not me. Guess he has a thing for weiner dogs.

Syn Fit 2009

Here is Syn Fit, put on by Evolution. It was the most beautiful weather and it was great to see the turnout of spectators because of it. It was my first race with my 70-200mm lens that I had for all of 12 hours but I think it worked nicely for me. Heavy as can be, though... It was also Kyle's first race as a Cat 3. He did an awesome pull with 3 to go and got Latitude a victory with Steve Wahl so needless to say I was pretty proud of him.

Tyson's 2009

I've always loved the races at urban locations. The crowd turnout is what makes it for me, I think. NCVC provided an awesome atmosphere for spectators and participants alike that seemed to fit beautifully with the crisp spring day. The only negative of a crit is the number of laps and I simply can't keep from snapping like a nut when the riders come by. I downsized this gallery from over 700 originals and from what I've heard from photographers that's relatively tame for being out all day. But I couldn't get enough of the energy of the racers and the warm vibe I got from the fans was palpable. And the kids, I can never have too many shots of kids! Unfortunately this was another day for nasty crashes. Hopefully everyone has gotten all their wipe-outs out of their systems.

Kyle has done the absolute sweetest thing for me. Anyone who knows about photography know that great shots come from practice and the quality of your lenses. Anyone who knows about cycling knows that the sport is not a cheap one. Leave it to us to pick two expensive hobbies... But he's set up a Paypal account for donations so I can hopefully fund getting some new equipment. I feel really awkward asking for anything from you guys who follow this site but I can't bring myself to charge for downloads either. These are photos of you and your families and you can have them if you want them. I'm doing this for fun but any help in making my shots better is greatly appreciated.

Walkersville 2009

This was my second time ever watching Walkersville. I witnessed Kyle get seventh two seasons ago during his grand comeback but a bad run-in with a tick had me pretty disgusted/freaked out with the place. However, I'd had a good year to reconsider and I had to take into account that this race was put on by my guy's current team. Armed with a camera, thick socks and a heavy layer of OFF! I felt courageous enough to make another attempt. I tried to use the car and the course to my advantage. I had a really good time with some good company and made it back to the finish to watch Kyle get fourth. Afterwards I was tethered to the feed zone along with Kyle but had fun with friends and enjoyed some burgers. Sadly the day was cut short by a nasty crash that required a Med-Evac and I missed the finish. Still, it was a good day overall.

Jeff Cup 2009

The much anticipated Jeff Cup... Blogs had been buzzing for weeks about it, puffing of chests and stroking of egos prominent despite it only being the first big race of the season. I have to admit I was excited too. It was my first trip to this particular race (a bad Jiffy Lube incident and work preventing me from attending past years) and the beginning of my first full season with my camera. Clouds kept rolling overhead making it hard to avoid the "fuzziness" that I hate so much but the temperature and the occasional rays of sunlight had me amped for the start of spring. It'll be interesting for people to try and find what's going on where with the races being intermixed as opposed to when it's a separated crit. It's also rare to see the chaos of a feed zone. There seemed to be a lot of confusion as to when it was actually supposed to happen. Some riders were almost in a panic when told to wait another lap when others got an illegal feed with no repercussions. I must apologize for all the dog shots. I didn't realize until after the upload that I seemed to be a little obsessed with three pups in particular. Maybe I was just appreciating the good behavior my dogs obviously could not pull off.
